I'll Make UNN A 21st Century University With Internally Generated Revenue— VC

UNN is headed for an era of change inspired the new VC, Professor Ozumba. He has promised to transform the fortunes of the institution with internally generated revenue.

Former Vice Chancellor, of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Professor Bartho Okolo

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, Professor Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba, has called for the support of all stakeholders as he executes his plan to transform the institution into a 21st century university.
Speaking at the institution's first "All-inclusive Visioning/Strategic Planning Session", Ozumba said his vision is to make UNN a centre of academic excellence  "for the promotion of new ideas, partnerships and collaborative effort, advance professionalism, cultural authenticity, public accountability, academic freedom and integrity, autonomy and social responsibility."

The Vice Chancellor promised that the planned transformation will not be reliant on government allocations or school fees.
He said the institution will self-fund its projects by initiating "a comprehensive drive for internally generated revenue base that would enable the institution to engage on its innovative transformations appropriately."
Ozumba solicited the support of all stakeholders, including the alumni, staff, union leaders and principal officers of the university.
Last month, Professor Ozumba made it clear that his administration will focus on developing the institution rather than probing past administrations fund mismanagement and possible corruption.
"I am not a probe panel and nobody should expect me to probe administrations before me because I don't have the mandate to do so and you should know that I am not the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC)," Ozumba had said.
There are a lot of abandoned projects at UNN, pointers to past fund mismanagement and possible corruption.
It will be recalled that UNN was found to have the worst website among the top 10 Nigerian universities in the last Student Pulse Rankings released in October.
