ASUU Kicks Against Government Funding Of Private Institutions
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned against the use of public funds to finance private educational institutions in the country.
In what it called a systematic privatisation of education, the union frowned at the use of TETFund, PTDF, among others, in funding private educational institutions and associated enterprises in Nigeria, saying that education is a public good and should not be left in the hands of private individuals who are driven solely by profit motive.
In a communiqué signed by the President of ASUU, Dr Nasiru Fagge, the union urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the education sector and stressed the need for urgent and radical action to address it.
