Oshoala, Oparanozie battle for Footballer of the Year award

Two key members of the victorious Super Falcons, Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie, are set to face off as they top the list for the Footballer of the Year (Women) in the Nigerian Sports Award which holds on November 13 in Lagos.

The duo was vital in Nigeria’s campaign at the African Women’s Champion, which ended a fortnight ago in Namibia with a victory over Cameroon in the final. They have been nominated for the award alongside US-based Courtney Dike, a member of the Falconets that finished second at FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada.

 

While Oshoala emerged as the AWC’s Most Valuable Player, Oparanozie claimed the Golden Boot award as the highest goal scorer in the tournament.

Oshoala also won the Golden Ball and the Golden Boot awards at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada.

Beyond the Footballer of the Year (Women) category, Oshoala is also nominated in the Sportswoman of the Year category in which she will compete with African track and field queen, Blessing Okagbare.
