Spartak Semey of Kazakhstan forward Jude Aneke has said he is glad that Enyimba’s Mfon Udoh broke his three-year old record of 20 goals in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Aneke set the record of 20 league goals in the 2010/2011 season when he was a player at Kaduna United and Udoh broke the record when he scored Enyimba’s equalising goal in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Dolphins in their Week 37 encounter to bring his season’s tally to 21.
But Aneke, who spoke with our correspondent on Tuesday, said breaking of records was part of the game.
He said, “It is a normal thing in football. For me, I’m happy for Udoh who broke my own record. Because I broke someone’s record, mine needed to be broken too.
“I knew it’s not going to last forever and besides that’s the beauty of the game. The most important thing is that I’m once a goal-king who lasted for seasons and finally I’m happy my record is broken.”
The former Warri Wolves marksman believes the Eagles would qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations adding that he was not bothered with his being left out of the team.
He said, “We have great players in Nigeria; so everybody will not be invited at the same time, but whenever the opportunity comes again to represent my fatherland, I will be glad to play my part.”
