Unilorin Hailed as Pacesetter in Academic Excellence by President Jonathan

The President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR, has described the University of Ilorin (Unilorin) as a pacesetter in the pursuit of academic excellence in the Nigerian University System (NUS). He made this assertion at the 30th-2012/2013 Convocation ceremonies of the University, held on Thursday, 24 October, 2014 at the University campus.

President Jonathan, who was represented by the Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, noted that the achievement had been made possible because of the stable academic calendar, focused mission, peace and orderliness in the University, commending the Institution for not allowing negative forces to disturb the peace and stability which the University enjoyed.

The Visitor expressed delight that the graduands had been well trained as professionals in different fields, saying that their qualifications would only be of relevance, if they were prepared to face the challenges of life. He informed them that there was a great deal to learn outside the University as they struggled to eke a living, urging them to strive for excellence and recognition wherever they might be.

The President stated that the Government was aware of the problem of unemployment facing the youths and was determined to tackle it, adding that a Board for the creation of three million jobs nationwide, annually, was recently inaugurated.

He reiterated that his Administration was strategically implementing a robust programme aimed at overhauling ailing infrastructure in order to strengthen the nation’s aspiration for rapid economic development for the good of the people of Nigeria.
