Jonathan’s B’Faso trip delays Falcons reception

President Goodluck Jonathan’s scheduled reception of the victorious women’s senior national team on Wednesday has been postponed indefinitely because of his emergency trip to Burkina Faso.
The president on Wednesday travelled to Burkina Faso for an emergency meeting with some of the leaders of other Economic Community of West African States countries on the crisis currently rocking the West African nation.

Super Falcons players
The Super Falcons won the African Women’s Championship for a record seventh time on October 25 in Namibia after they had defeated the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 2-0 and were promised to be formally received by the president on Wednesday.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, had said on his twitter handle shortly after their victory on October 25 that the president would love to receive the victorious team.
Abati wrote, “President Jonathan congratulates the Super Falcons of Nigerian on winning the African Women’s Soccer Championship again.
“The President applauds the Falcons’ victorious performance against Cameroon in tonight’s final match in Windhoek, Namibia.
“He looks forward to receiving & honouring the victorious Falcons at the Presidential Villa on their return home.”
However, hopes that the reception could hold later this week were quashed as the President is also scheduled to grace the opening of the new Uyo Stadium on November 7, hence the indefinite postponement of the Falcons’ reception.
